WESTON     CARP    FISHING    TOURNAMENT

 

2008 RULES:     All fish entered in the contest for prize consideration--

1. Shall be of the Carp Species

2. Must be taken ONLY from the designated contest fishing areas of the West Fork River during the contest period. (see Tournament regulations paragraph #3)

3. Be presented LIVE or relatively "fresh" for weighing and sizing (don't leave'em on the river bank in the sun all day before bringin' em in).

4. Will be judged on weight and size (length and width/girth) to determine winners and to eliminate ties. Decision of judges shall be final.

5. Are the property of the fisher and must be disposed of by the fisher, either by releasing the fish back into the West Fork river, or disposing of it's carcass in a proper disposal container.

6. If any catch is determined to meet or match any West Virginia or United States fishing records for this species, The Weston Carp Tournament will provide the needed certification for it's entry into published record books in exchange for credit and mention of the circumstances and place of the catch. Such entry however shall be the responsibility of the fisher.

7. Loading of any catch with rocks, lead shot, marbles, or any other devices or objects to increase it's weight is strictly prohibited. The Weston Carp Tournament Committee reserves the right to open (gut) any fish after it's initial weighing to determine IF such illegal measures were used. All decisions of the judges shall be final.

8. There are NO rules on types of tackle or bait that may be employed, WITH THE FOLLOWING EXCEPTIONS:

·         there are no assigned sets (locations) for individual fishermen except that bridges or boat ramps or similar locations shall be reserved for use by the handicapped who shall have first priority.

·         each individual participant shall be limited to THREE fishing rods per set at a time

·         fishers shall not use a trot line

·         fish may be taken on a hook and line only

·         no bow fishing, firearm shooting, spearing, poisoning or dynamiting of fish is allowed.

·         an adult accompanying a child may have two sets, one for themselves and one for the child

9. By virture of entry and registration,  each participant:

(a.) assumes personal responsibility for his/her own safety on or around the water, and for the accompaniment and monitoring of any child under the age of 12

 (b.) agrees that his/her photograph and name may be used without payment to him/her of any fee or compensation; said photo and name to be used by the Weston West Virginia Carp Tournament Committee to publicize this current, and any future such events.

10. Additionally, all fishing activities will be subject to all West Virginia Game and Fishing laws and licensing regulations, and will be monitored by appropriate law enforcement authorities. Each participant by their entry agrees to abide by and be personally responsible to and for any violations of applicable game or fish laws, and WILL BE subject to fines for littering the river bank at their individual fishing sites.
